The Pittsburgh Penguins continue to make moves to their roster with the goal of turning things around.
Pittsburgh has dropped three straight games, being outscored by a lopsided 13-4 with a lot of that coming from the one-sided 6-1 loss to the Utah Hockey Club on Saturday. The three days off prior to their game against the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday have hopefully allowed the team to turn things around — which has featured several roster changes headlined by a trade.
The Penguins acquired former first-round pick Philip Tomasino from the Nashville Predators on Monday, meaning a move was going to follow to make room for him on the roster. According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Penguins have reportedly placed forward Valtteri Puustinen on waivers.
Puustinen is a former seventh-round pick for the Pens, having selected him in the 2019 NHL Draft. The 25-year-old forward made the Penguins out of training camp, playing in 10 games for the team — recording just one goal and one assist in that time. He has 23 points in 63 career games in the NHL. It remains to be seen if Puustinen will head to the AHL or be claimed by another team.
Pittsburgh is back on the ice Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. EST against the Canucks, looking to turn things around.
