The Pittsburgh Pirates have plenty of needs this offseason as they look to make it back to the playoffs for the first time since 2015.
Pittsburgh finished the 2024 season with a 76-86 record, marking the second straight season with that same record. The major highlight of the season was the starting pitching, with Paul Skenes and Jared Jones both making their debuts. Skenes ended up winning the 2024 National League Rookie of the Year and placing third in the NL Cy Young vote.
From there, it’s clear the team will need to make additions throughout their roster.
FOX Sports’ Deesha Thosar listed the three biggest free-agent needs for each NL Central team. Thosar listed the top need for the Pirates as being at first base with Rowdy Tellez hitting free agency. The other two needs include corner outfield help as well as their bullpen. With Bryan De La Cruz being non-tendered by the Pirates on Friday and Aroldis Chapman going back on the market, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that these remain needs for the Buccos.
Free agency is underway, so it remains to be seen what moves the Pirates will ultimately make.
