The Pittsburgh Steelers are 8-3 with quarterbacks Justin Fields and Russell Wilson, who the team acquired during the offseason.
Pittsburgh has two starting-caliber quarterbacks on its roster. Fields began the season as the starter, with Wilson injured, and brought the team to a 4-2 record. Since Wilson returned, the Steelers are 4-1. Although both quarterbacks have played well, their future is uncertain, as they will both be free agents this offseason.
ESPN’s Matt Miller predicts that the Steelers will bring in Alabama star Jalen Milroe with their first-round pick in the 2025 National Football League Draft.
“The Steelers’ future at quarterback is a big question heading into the offseason, as both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields are set to be free agents,” Miller writes. “Either could return, but the Steelers might be searching for a more long-term option. Milroe has a combination of Wilson’s arm strength and pocket mobility and Fields’ rushing ability.”
“He’s still a bit raw as a prospect, but he has thrown 15 touchdown passes and rushed for 17 more scores this season. Milroe just needs to improve his touch as a passer, but scouts I’ve talked to have said he has the most upside of any draft-eligible quarterback in the class. And should the Steelers re-sign Wilson, Milroe could sit, learn and develop further.”

It’s unclear what the Steelers will do in the offseason at quarterback. They could retain Fields, Wilson, or both, but the price to keep them may be high. Drafting a quarterback like Milroe to develop under Wilson or Fields could be a potential long-term solution at the position for the Steelers.
