One Pittsburgh Pirates fan-favorite is available on the open market after spending the last two seasons with the club.
Pittsburgh reunited with five-time All-Star Andrew McCutchen ahead of the 2023 season and he has been everything the team could’ve hoped for in his return. In 2024, he hit 20 home runs, drove in 50 runs, and slashed .232/.328/.411 in 120 games played for Pittsburgh.
McCutchen is 38 years old but has been hinted that he wants to return to the organization for the 2025 season. He’s currently a free agent and will likely cash in with a one-year deal whether with Pittsburgh or not. Spotrac currently is projecting that McCutchen will receive a deal worth roughly $9.77 million over one year this offseason.
The Pirates selected McCutchen in the first round of the 2005 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft. He began his big league career with the Pirates in 2009. He spent the first nine years of his big league career with the Pirates and racked up five All-Star nods over that stretch. McCutchen was also named the 2013 National League Most Valuable Player.
Whether or not McCutchen returns to Pittsburgh in 2025, he is a Pirates legend and always will be. Free agency is about to heat up and soon enough moves will start popping up left and right. It’s unclear what Pittsburgh will do, but keep an eye on the team as winter approaches.
