The Pittsburgh Steelers brought in two quarterbacks this offseason but may not retain both in the long run.
The Steelers upgraded their offense by bringing in Justin Fields and Russell Wilson on one-year contracts. Wilson was the presumed starter from the beginning, but a preseason injury sidelined Wilson for the first six weeks of the regular season. This opened the door for Fields to showcase his abilities and start, but now Wilson is back and better than ever
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler gathered a list of the top free agents for this offseason, predicting that Steelers quarterback Fields will leave with Wilson starting and could get a deal similar to Baker Mayfield.
“The Fields experiment in Pittsburgh can be classified as a success; he played steady if unspectacular football in six games as the starter, winning four of them,” Fowler writes. “So a return can’t be completely taken off the table at this point. But Russell Wilson’s quality play since taking over the job could force Fields to look elsewhere.”
“Fields can follow the models of Darnold and Baker Mayfield, who recently signed one-year deals with teams in need of veteran quarterback help and excelled with good supporting casts.”

Fields played well as the Steelers signal caller, leading the team to a 4-2 record in his six starts with ten total touchdowns. He had flashes where he showed how good he could be, but the team is playing on a new level with Wilson under center. Unless there is a drastic change, Pittsburgh will likely elect to retain Wilson over Fields.
