The Pittsburgh Steelers were active this offseason, making changes to improve their offense after a first-round playoff exit last season.
The Steelers went 10-7 last season, but their offense was abysmal which showed in the playoffs. Pittsburgh fixed this issue in the offense by signing veteran quarterback Russell Wilson to a one-year deal after being let go from the Denver Broncos. They didn’t stop there, trading the Chicago Bears for quarterback Justin Fields.
Bringing in these two quarterbacks is exactly what the Steelers needed as they sit atop the AFC North with a 7-2 record. Wilson revealed that he and Fields discussed the potential of Fields going to Pittsburgh despite Wilson signing there in an ESPN interview with Hannah Storm.
“I think the best part about it is that when I was able to come here, shortly after Justin and I were texting about places and this and that, and he ends up coming here, and we were talking about him coming here potentially,” Wilson said.
It’s a good thing that Wilson unintentionally recruited Fields. A preseason injury sidelined Wilson and led to Fields starting for the Steelers for the first six weeks of the season and sparking a quarterback competition.

In this time, Fields led the team to a 4-2, but with Wilson healthy, Pittsburgh’s offense has risen to a whole new level. The Steelers are 3-0 with Wilson under center and have scored 26 or more points in each game. The Steelers made the right decision adding these two quarterbacks. Both Wilson and Fields will be free agents this offseason.
