The Steelers went from playing Justin Fields in all of their offensive snaps to none of them.
Pittsburgh doesn’t plan on keeping it that way, however.
Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith left the door open to Fields having a package of plays that allows him to remain part of the offense, giving some insight into the potential timeline Thursday.
“It’ll be ready to go when we need it,” Smith said, per Nick Farabaugh of PennLive.com. “Maybe it’ll be this Sunday, maybe it’ll be next Sunday. I’m very confident when we break it out, it will make a difference.”
Fields is a weapon with the ball in his hands, accounting for five touchdowns on the ground this season. Pittsburgh doesn’t seem to be in a rush getting him back into the lineup, though, as it has won all three games that Russell Wilson started and hasn’t needed a change of pace. It could change its mind with first place in the AFC North on the line this weekend against the Baltimore Ravens.
