The Pittsburgh Steelers desperately needed to add a boost to the wide receiver room and did so in a big way.
Speculation and rumors swirled around the Steelers for months as they looked up upgrade the spot. Pittsburgh attempted to land every big-name receiver who has been in trade rumors going back to the summer starting with San Francisco 49ers playmaker Brandon Aiyuk.
The Steelers certainly tried hard to make a move and finally did ahead of the Nov. 5 trade deadline by landing Mike Williams in a last-second swap with the New York Jets.
He didn’t see much action in his first game as a Steeler last week against the Washington Commanders, but he did make his presence felt. Williams caught the game-winning touchdown against Washington to give Pittsburgh its seventh win of the season.
The trade already is looking like it’s working out and ESPN’s Dan Graziano listed Williams among players he expected to breakout in the second half of the season.

“Preston Smith was an under-the-radar add for the Steelers, but with Alex Highsmith injured again, Smith could get some high-leverage pass-rush opportunities while offenses focus on trying to stop T.J. Watt,” Graziano said. “Staying in Pittsburgh, the Steelers planned to ease wide receiver Mike Williams into action, but he had to step in for injured Calvin Austin III on Sunday and ended up catching the winning touchdown in his Steelers debut.
“As a good contested-catch receiver, Williams combining with George Pickens down the stretch could be critical in helping Russell Wilson continue his strong play in Pittsburgh.”
Pittsburgh certainly seems to have pulled off a great move. Hopefully, Williams can continue to rack up catches throughout the rest of the season.
