Steelers Found Their No. 2 Receiver To Pair With George Pickens

Mike Williams may have been just what Pittsburgh needed

The Pittsburgh Steelers may have found the perfect offensive piece in wide receiver Mike Williams.

Pittsburgh has actively sought to add a receiver since trading Diontae Johnson away. They were included in trade rumors for almost every major receiver, including Brandon Aiyuk and Davante Adams. The Steelers finally traded for a receiver to pair with young star George Pickens at the trade deadline by adding Mike Williams from the New York Jets.

Williams took no time proving his worth to Pittsburgh, scoring a game-winning touchdown in his first game. Pittsburgh found the receiver they needed according to Sports Illustrated’s Noah Strackbein.

“The Steelers had a No. 1 wide receiver. All they needed was a No. 2, and they got one,” Strackbein said. “Williams comes to Pittsburgh with plenty of starting experience and plenty of success in the NFL. He’s a risk compared to Aiyuk or Adams, but instead of judging him by his short-lived career in New York – like some around the Jets are – maybe everyone should look at where that team is this season. Sometimes, teams without success have players who are struggling to find success.”

“Russell Wilson has made every receiver in Pittsburgh better this season. Maybe he can do the same with Williams. And while nothing is guaranteed in the NFL, it took one game, nine snaps and a touchdown to show everyone that it’s too early to judge Williams.”

The Steelers are on a four-game winning streak, and their offense looks better than ever. Williams’ ability to make contested catches adds another weapon to Pittsburgh’s offense. The Steelers may have found what they needed to help them make a deep playoff run with Williams.
