Steelers Release Seven-Year NFL Veteran, Former First-Round Draft Pick

What's next for Pittsburgh?

The Pittsburgh Steeler made a tough choice on Saturday.

Pittsburgh activated linebacker Tyler Matakevich and wide receiver Ben Skowronek to the active roster and had to make cuts in response. One move that the Steelers made was releasing seven-year National Football League veteran and former first-round draft pick Terrell Edmunds, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

“Steelers activated LB Tyler Matakevich and WR Ben Skowronek to their active roster for Sunday’s game vs. Washington and released (running back) Jonathan Ward and (safety) Terrell Edmunds,” Schefter said.

Edmunds appeared in just five games this season for the Steelers. He has been dealing with an illness and missed some practice time earlier in the week. Edmunds was selected in the first round of the 2018 National Football League Draft and spent the first five seasons of his career with the team.

The 27-year-old spent the 2023 season with the Philadelphia Eagles and Tennessee Titans. He spent some time with the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier this season and appeared in one game. Edmunds appeared in five games with the Steelers and had seven total tackles with Pittsburgh before being released.

Pittsburgh had to make some moves to the roster to make room for Matakevich and Skowronek, and unfortunately that led to Edmund’s second stint with the Steelers coming to an end. The Steelers will take on the Washington Commanders on Sunday afternoon and surely will do so without the services of Edmunds as they look to earn their seventh win of the season.
