Steelers Reportedly Tried To Land Seahawks Star Before Trade Deadline

Pittsburgh tried its best

The Pittsburgh Steelers certainly were one of the more active teams in football ahead of the 2024 National Football League trade deadline.

Pittsburgh was looking for a boost for the wide receiver room and certainly found one. The Steelers finally were able to swing a deal as they acquired veteran wideout Mike Williams from the New York Jets just before the deadline. He is a great fit for the Pittsburgh offense and certainly will give Russell Wilson another outside threat.

He isn’t the only player the Steelers tried to land, though. The Steelers reportedly called the Seattle Seahawks about a possible deal for superstar DK Metcalf, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

“One interesting note is that Pittsburgh really did scour the earth for receiver help,” Fowler said. “Steelers (General Manager) Omar Khan looked high and low before zeroing in on Jets wideout Mike Williams. I believe Pittsburgh was one of the teams to check on Seattle’s DK Metcalf, which was a nonstarter for the Seahawks.”

Metcalf would’ve also been a fantastic fit for the Steelers. A one-two combo of Metcalf and Pickens would’ve formed one of the best receiver duos in football. Plus, Metcalf already has experience playing with Wilson, so that would’ve made things easier. While this is the case, Williams was a great pickup as well.
