Jets Cornerback Already Floated As Offseason Target For Steelers

Pittsburgh is building something special

The Pittsburgh Steelers are building something special, and that likely will continue.

Pittsburgh won 10 games last season and is on pace to be much better than that this season. The Steelers are 6-2 on the season and will take on the surprising Washington Commanders on Sunday with a chance to move to 7-2. Pittsburgh already is in first place in the division and will maintain that with a win over Washington.

The Steelers are loaded with young talent and seem like they are going to be able to maintain this success for years to come. Pittsburgh has built one of the best defenses in football, and one way the team can continue to improve is by continuing to add more key pieces to it.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox predicted that the Steelers will and could be in the mix for New York Jets cornerback D.J. Reed in free agency after the season ends.

“Sauce Gardner might be the headliner of the Jets secondary, but fellow corner D.J. Reed has been a sleeper superstar,” Knox said. “The soon-to-be 28-year-old has been a dependable starter since arriving in New York in 2022 free agency and is having a career year. A 2018 fifth-round pick of the 49ers, Reed spent time in San Francisco and Seattle before settling in with the Jets. He’s appeared in 39 games for his current team and has started every contest for New York in which he has appeared…

“Reed will likely command a sizeable contract, which could limit his market to cap-rich teams like the (Minnesota Vikings) ($77.7 million in projected cap space). While the Steelers don’t often splurge in free agency, Reed would be a sensible target for them as well. Pittsburgh is projected to have $56.9 million in cap space available and could lose Donte Jackson in free agency.”

It’s a little early for a prediction like this, but Reed could be a great fit for Pittsburgh but we still have half the season left pretty much.
