The Steelers finally added a receiver.
Pittsburgh acquired wide receiver Mike Williams in a trade with the New York Jets, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media. ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed the news, revealing that a 2025 fifth-round pick would be heading back to NYC.
Williams’ arrival is a huge win for Pittsburgh, which hadn’t been able to land any of its targets dating back to the offseason — including San Francisco’s Brandon Aiyuk, New York’s Davante Adams and Kansas City’s DeAndre Hopkins. The Steelers can now add him alongside George Pickens and Calvin Austin III.
New York didn’t necessarily need to trade away Williams, though his time with that franchise obviously had run its course. Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers called out the 30-year-old for mental mistakes just a few weeks ago, while the arrival of Adams ultimately made him expendable. Williams has just 12 receptions for 166 yards on the season, though he was twice a 1,000-yard receiver with the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Steelers have two fifth-round picks this offseason: their own and one from the Los Angeles Rams, which they acquired in the Kevin Dotson trade.
