Sidney Crosby remains one of the best players in the National Hockey League and he’s once again delivered in the clutch for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Penguins captain has scored many game-winners and clutch goals for Pittsburgh through the years, so it shouldn’t be a shock that he did it once again — especially when the team needed to be picked up.
Heading into Thursday night’s game against the Anaheim Ducks, the Penguins had dropped six straight games in a row and were looking for answers. Enter Crosby, who got the goal-scoring going for a low-scoring Pittsburgh team. The 37-year-old deflected in a shot in the third period to tie the game for Pittsburgh, sending the team into overtime with their first win since Oct. 16 being just a goal away.
Crosby found himself alone in front of Ducks netminder Lukas Dostal after a slip-up in the offensive zone, waiting for Dostal to leave an opening before flipping the puck over the goalie to win the game for the Penguins. Pittsburgh fans can check out the game-winning goal right here.
The two-goal game gave the Penguins a 2-1 victory in overtime. It also brought Crosby to three goals, nine assists, and 12 points through 12 games on the season. If the captain can get going offensively, then hopefully the remainder of the team will follow.
