Ex-Saints Pro Bowler Makes Sense As Free Agent Option For Steelers

Pittsburgh could use a boost

There’s going to be a lot of speculation about the Pittsburgh Steelers over the next few weeks.

The 2024 National Football League trade deadline will come and pass on Nov. 5, and the Steelers are going to be linked to pretty much every possibly available receiver ahead of it. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the Steelers will get a trade done, but they probably will try.

If the Steelers fail to complete a trade, there will be other options out there who could help the receiver room. Pittsburgh could look to free agency to add a former star. Former New Orleans Saints Pro Bowler Michael Thomas somehow still is out there. Injuries plagued him over the last few years, but he seemingly is healthy right now and would cost less than a trade.

He was the best receiver in football right now and although he isn’t at that level any longer, he still had 448 receiving yards last year across 10 games played. That level of production could help take the Steelers’ offense to another level. Pittsburgh had a budding star in George Pickens. Adding Thomas to the mix could give Russell Wilson a dependable option in the middle of the field to improve depth.

Pittsburgh has been looking for receiving help and Thomas could be the solution. The Steelers definitely should monitor the trade market, but if a deal doesn’t work out maybe it could be time to give Thomas a call.
