The Pittsburgh Steelers seem to be one wide receiver away from truly contending.
Pittsburgh is 5-2 on the season and has looked great so far this season. Whether it has been Justin Fields or Russell Wilson under center, the Steelers have looked good. Pittsburgh’s defense is one of the best in the league and the offense has been steady. It does seem like the team needs one more receiver behind George Pickens, though.
The Steelers have been linked to a handful of players. Pittsburgh has tried to get deals done, but things haven’t worked out. The trade deadline is approaching and will pass on Nov. 5, though. The Steelers are running out of time, and ESPN’s Ben Solak suggested that the team should call the New York Jets about Mike Williams.
“Which player should they target? Jets wide receiver Mike Williams,” Solak said. “I don’t believe Williams will ever be as good as he was on his rookie deal for the (Los Angeles Chargers), before all of his injuries accumulated. But I also don’t think he’s nearly as bad as his Jets film would imply. Williams needs a quarterback who will throw him contested balls on the sideline, which Wilson is happy to do. And the Steelers need anyone who can play wide receiver. It would work.”
Pittsburgh needs a receiver, and Williams is affordable. New York is shopping him after landing Davante Adams. Could it make sense for the Steelers to swoop in and get a deal done?
