Steelers’ Mike Tomlin Gives Brutally Honest Assessment Of Rookie

Tomlin 'moved on' from Roman Wilson

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has never been one to bite his tongue, but his comments Tuesday were still a bit surprising.

Tomlin pulled no punches when discussing the status of rookie wideout Roman Wilson.

“He missed some practice time because of the (hamstring), and as we’ve talked repeatedly in this setting, Roman needs to work for me to really consider him,” Tomlin said, responding to a question about the rookie’s playing time, per team-provided video. “His participation got compromised some last week and so really once it got compromised, I moved on.”

Tomlin notoriously hates talking about unavailable players, but even that felt a bit harsh. Wilson played just five snaps through the first seven games of his career, missing considerable time with an ankle injury sustained during the first week of training camp and now a hamstring issue.

The Steelers will return to practice Wednesday, and it remains to be seen if Wilson’s name will appear on the injury report again.
