Insider Reports Steelers Are Benching Justin Fields For Russell Wilson

It sounds like a change is coming

It certainly sounds like a change is coming for the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday against the New York Jets.

Pittsburgh is looking to win its fifth game of the season and has a tough matchup ahead of it against the Jets. New York recently acquired star receiver Davante Adams and he very likely will be making his team debut on Sunday.

The Steelers are 4-2 on the season and have been led by young quarterback Justin Fields. Now, it seems like a change is coming. The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that the Steelers will be benching Fields for nine-time Pro Bowler Russell Wilson.

“Tomlin has earned the benefit of the doubt,” Russini said. “He’s one of the best coaches in the (National Football League), and he has tons of credibility in league circles and in locker rooms in Pittsburgh and beyond. It’s hard to question him, but this one is a puzzler.

“The Steelers are sitting at 4-2 with Justin Fields as the starter, and now Fields is being benched for Russell Wilson, deemed healthy after a training camp calf injury. Over the last six weeks, Fields has been playing with confidence and has the support of his teammates. Tomlin noted that Fields’ ability with his legs helps this offense get out of trouble time and time again, which is why the Steelers will have a package for Fields — I expect to see him at some point on Sunday.”

This isn’t too shocking. Wilson was named the team’s starting quarterback heading into the season before a calf injury sidelined him. It seems as though he will be returning to the field on Sunday for a big matchup against the Aaron Rodgers-led Jets.
