Ex-Steelers Veteran Center Called Possible Free Agent Fit For Saints

Will one former member of the Pittsburgh Steelers find a home in the near future?

Former Steelers center Mason Cole spent the last two seasons with Pittsburgh. He started all 17 games for the Steelers in each of the last two seasons but was released last season ended. He has been looking for a new opportunity, but things haven’t worked out in his favor.

Cole is currently a free agent, but he could still get another opportunity at some point. He is a six-year National Football League veteran and wouldn’t be expensive on the open market. Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox put together a list of landing spots for the top remaining free agents and called the New Orleans Saints a fit for Cole.

“The Saints have also been playing without standout center Erik McCoy, who suffered a groin injury in Week 3,” Knox said. “Though he may return this season, it would behoove the team to grab some talent off the free-agent market. McCoy’s injury is expected to sideline him for 6-8 weeks, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

“Center Mason Cole has been available ever since the Steelers released him at the start of the offseason. While he’s never been a high-level starter, he started all 34 games in his two seasons with Pittsburgh. There’s little reason for the 28-year-old to be unemployed in mid-October.”

Could Cole land with the Saints? This is just a hypothetical option, but there is merit to the idea. Hopefully, Cole can find another opportunity in the near future.
