Will Steelers Possibly Shake Things Up At Quarterback After Loss?

Fields has played well, but the team may play Wilson soon

The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off of back-to-back losses after beginning the season 3-0.

Pittsburgh began the season perfect through the first three weeks, beating Atlanta, Denver, and Los Angeles. With quarterback Russell Wilson injured, Justin Fields led the offense to these victories. The Steelers have lost their past two games since then. Although the Steelers lost each game by only three points, their offense has not looked as good as before.

After losing the past two games, Pittsburgh may look to have Wilson start for them in Week 6 according to Sports Illustrated’s Noah Strackbein.

“It’s tough to imagine the Steelers were willing to give Fields two losses in a row and stick with him,” Strackbein said. “The plan all along was to keep Fields on the field until they couldn’t anymore. Then, play Wilson, who was signed to be their starter the entire time.”

“With a 3-0 start, they couldn’t bench Fields. The offense was growing and Fields was growing with it. Now, after an 0-2 stretch, that offensive spark has died, and Fields had the least impressive performance of his run, completing 15 of 27 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns. The Steelers’ plan all along was to have Wilson carry them as far as they can go this season.”

Fields has played admirably for the Steelers thus far this season, passing for 961 yards and five touchdowns with only one interception. He’s also tacked on another 172 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. With Pittsburgh originally signing Wilson to be their starter, it wouldn’t be outside the realm of possibility that they may look to him if they continue losing.
