The Steelers forced Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys into three turnovers, but ultimately Pittsburgh’s offense wasn’t able to capitalize on the opportunities and the hosts suffered a 20-17 loss at Acrisure Stadium on Sunday night.
Steelers quarterback Justin Fields told reporters it was self-inflicted wounds that cost the hosts in a second consecutive loss.
“I mean, yeah, it’s definitely frustrating but it’s just ourselves, to be honest with you,” Fields told reporters, per a team-provided video. “I think the reoccurring thing is just shooting ourselves in the foot — penalties, false starts and stuff like that. It just comes down to execution.”
Pittsburgh committed eight penalties in the contest, which all but ended after Prescott found Cowboys receiver Jalen Tolbert for a touchdown on fourth-and-1 with 20 second left in regulation.
“Certainly doesn’t help when our defense gets takeaways and we don’t capitalize off those,” Fields said. “I mean, it’s pretty self-explanatory. … It’s just capitalizing and taking advantage of those opportunities when the defense does get us the ball back.”
