Steelers Drop First Game Of Season, Losing 27-24 To Colts

The comeback fell short for Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Steelers will not be going undefeated in the 2024 season.

After starting the season 3-0, the Steelers made their way to Indianapolis to face off with the Colts. Before Pittsburgh knew it, the team was in a 17-0 deficit — even after an injury to Colts’ starting quarterback Anthony Richardson had to leave the game and was replaced by 2023 NFL Comeback Player of the Year Joe Flacco.

Pittsburgh started to climb back before finding themselves down 24-10, and that’s when Justin Fields did his best to try and mount the comeback. The Steelers signal-caller finished with his best game statistically, going 22-for-24 through the air with 312 passing yards and a touchdown to tight end Pat Freiermuth. Fields wasn’t done there in his efforts, as he also ran for 55 yards on the ground and added two rushing scores.

A field goal by Colts kicker Matt Gay ended up being the deciding factor in this game, as the Steelers would fall 27-24 to Indianapolis, dropping to 3-1.

Notably, this game was played by the Steelers without linebacker Alex Highsmith and running back Jaylen Warren. Running the ball was tough for the Steelers beyond Fields, as Najee Harris ran for just 19 yards on 13 carries while Cordarrelle Patterson, who had 43 rushing yards, got injured in the game and wasn’t able to return.
