Steelers Quarterback Surprisingly Called Trade Option For Patriots

Will Pittsburgh swing a trade?

Could the Pittsburgh Steelers pull off a trade over the next few weeks?

The 2024 National Football League trade deadline will pass on Nov. 5, and the Steelers will be an interesting team to watch if they can continue to play as they have lately. Pittsburgh is 3-0 on the young season and has the means to make a run at a playoff spot. The Steelers won 10 games last season and certainly are on pace to be even better.

Pittsburgh added both Justin Fields and Russell Wilson to improve the quarterback position. Wilson currently is dealing with a calf injury, which has opened the door for Fields to be the starter. He has shined so far this season, which could make Wilson expendable.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox put together a list of the top 10 current trade candidates across the National Football League and, had Wilson at No. 7 and listed the New England Patriots among the “potential suitors” for him.

“Wilson is a terrific insurance policy, but the nine-time Pro Bowler could be an even better stopgap option for a team in need of a starter,” Knox said. “The New England Patriots could also consider Wilson—if Jacoby Brissett continues to underwhelm and the Pats believe rookie Drake Maye still isn’t ready. Potential Suitors: Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots.”

It would be pretty surprising to see the Patriots swing a deal for Wilson. New England drafted Maye with the hope that he will be the quarterback of the future. He likely will get an opportunity at some point, so it would be surprising to see them trade for Wilson because he would block Maye’s path to the field.
