The Pittsburgh Steelers have surprised everyone through the first three weeks of the 2024 regular season, leaving them as a top-10 team in the National Football League thus far.
Pittsburgh was powered by Justin Fields on offense, who scored a touchdown with his legs and one through the air to Calvin Austin III to deliver their best offensive outing through Week 3. The Steelers’ defense did much of the heavy lifting against as well, as Cameron Heyward, Elandon Roberts, and T.J. Watt had a sack each while Nick Herbig recorded two on the day.
ESPN took notice as they released their National Football League Week 4 power rankings, with the Steelers climbing up to No. 7 after having been No. 12 last week.
As part of this week’s power rankings, ESPN’s Brooke Pryor highlighted the biggest offensive issue — red zone scoring.
“Though the Steelers found the end zone twice — and were stopped just short a third time — in their Week 3 win, they are still tied for last in red zone scoring, scoring touchdowns on just 25% of their red zone trips,” Pryor wrote. “That’s down from 48.89% in 2023. There are many factors contributing to the low mark — a new offensive coordinator, a backup quarterback tapped to start days before the season opener, a slew of offensive line injuries and ill-timed penalties. Sunday could’ve marked the start of a turnaround with a 20-point outing, but the Steelers still had to turn to kicker Chris Boswell when drives stalled out 10 and 12 yards away from the end zone.”

The Steelers will try to improve the offense this weekend when they face off with the Indianapolis Colts, to attempt moving to 4-0 on the 2024 campaign.
