Penguins Cut Six Players From Training Camp, Down To 64

The Pens are making moves

With training camp underway, the Pittsburgh Penguins are already making moves to prepare for the 2024-25 NHL regular season.

Pittsburgh will play their first exhibition game against the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night, making the necessary moves ahead of time. The Penguins announced that they had cut six players from their training camp to bring Pittsburgh camp’s roster down to 64 total. The cuts made by the team included two forwards, three defensemen, and a goaltender.

Forwards Justin Cloutier and Cooper Foster were removed from training camp along with the three defenders Caeden Carlisle, Donovan McCoy, and Emil Pieniniemi. Pittsburgh has five goaltenders left in the camp after cutting UFA invitee Charlie Schenkel, leaving them with Joel Blomoqvist, Tristan Jarry, Filip Larsson, Sergei Murashov, and Alex Nedeljkovic.

There’s still plenty of time for other players to make a dent in camp, with new additions Rutger McGroarty, Kevin Hayes, Anthony Beauviller, and Matt Grzelcyk having all eyes on them.

The puck drops to kick off the preseason for the Pens on Saturday night against the Sabres at 7 p.m. EST as McGroarty and company will look to make an impact.
