The Pittsburgh Steelers are in a better situation than a lot of teams around the league with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.
The National Football League is all about the quarterback, and the Steelers happen to have two on their roster capable of starting. During the offseason, Pittsburgh signed Wilson and traded for Fields to fix their situation — with a competition taking place throughout training camp and the preseason. Many analysts and pundits were questioning the Steelers coming into this season because of the concern at the position, yet the Steelers sit at 2-0 with Fields leading the way.
Multiple teams throughout the NFL have experienced injuries and struggles at the helm. That has led to people asking — could Wilson be on the block with the success of Fields?
On ESPN’s “Get Up” on Monday, Mike Greenberg presented the question to former NFL head coach Rex Ryan, who called Wilson the best option on the market. With that being said, he believes the Steelers should be hesitant to move him unless they can get a first-round draft pick.
“I think he’d (Russell Wilson) be the number one guy,” Ryan said on ESPN’s “Get Up.” “You would call, there’s no doubt you would. And here’s the thing, and people are going to be ‘Then what do you ask for?’ Here’s what you ask for. You ask for a first-round pick. “Oh there’s no way in hell, get him for a four.’ Why would Pittsburgh trade him? Unless it’s a first-round pick, they’re not going to trade him. Because their situation is good, everybody knows you need two quarterbacks in this league. And so, no. But I’m telling you, you’ve seen it. What’s the price of a starting quarterback in this league? It’s a first-round pick.”
