Steelers May Ride ‘Hot Hand’ Following 2-0 Start With Justin Fields

Fields is 2-0 as the Steelers starter and can't be slowed down

The Pittsburgh Steelers are 2-0 this season and may not want to change things any time soon.

Pittsburgh was able to limit the Denver Broncos to just six points in Week 2, giving them a 13-6 win. While Russell Wilson would have liked to play against his former team, his calf injury kept him out and allowed Justin Fields to start for the second week in a row. Fields led the Steelers to the win, throwing for 117 passing yards and the first score of the season by connecting with Darnell Washington. He also rushed for 27 yards on eight carries and most importantly — didn’t turn the ball over.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported before the game Sunday that if the Steelers were able to move to 2-0, head coach Mike Tomlin may ride the “hot hand” with Fields at quarterback.

“Execute the game plan, take care of the football and let one of the NFL’s best defenses perform,” Rapoport wrote in his report on NFL.com.”If that happens, don’t be surprised if Tomlin continues to have Fields start, sources say, even if Wilson has recovered from his aggravated calf injury. It would not necessarily be a benching, but more of a continuation of what is working under center.”

Tomlin will have a decision to make after the Steelers moved to 2-0 on Sunday. It remains to be seen who will be starting in Week 3, but whoever is will have to take on an undefeated Los Angeles Chargers team. Fields may have the inside track.
