The Pittsburgh Steelers are now 2-0 after defeating the Denver Broncos in a defensive showdown.
In what was initially touted as Russell Wilson’s revenge game, it became another start for Justin Fields with Wilson injured. Fields led the Steelers’ offense, completing 13 of 20 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown. Fields and the running backs combined for another 141 yards on the ground. Even with the offense scoring their first touchdown of the year, Pittsburgh’s defense stole the show with a masterclass performance.
Pittsburgh’s defense dominated the Broncos and was instrumental in their victory according to Steelers.com’s Dale Lolley.
“If last week’s performance was the opening act for the Steelers defense, Sunday’s effort against the Denver Broncos was a command performance,” Lolley said. “The Steelers shut the Broncos out for more than three quarters with a smothering defensive effort, while the offense generated 141 yards on the ground in a 13-6 victory that wasn’t as close as the final score might indicate here at Empower Field at Mile High. The win gave the Steelers their first 2-0 start since 2020. Even more importantly, both of those games came on the road, as the team heads into its home opener next Sunday against the Chargers at Acrisure Stadium.”
Pittsburgh’s defense set the tone for the game forcing three-and-outs on three of the Broncos’ first five drives. They got to the quarterback early and often with TJ Watt and Alex Highsmith sacking Bo Nix in the game.

The Steelers’ defense had six tackles for a loss and two interceptions against Denver. If Pittsburgh’s defense continues to play at such a high level, the Steelers’ chances to make a deep playoff run will improve exponentially.
