The Pittsburgh Steelers will have a tough decision to make in the not-so-distant future.
Who will hold the Steelers’ starting quarterback position for the foreseeable future? Soon enough, Pittsburgh will have to make a call. The Steelers were expecting Russell Wilson to be the guy, but things could change. Wilson has missed the Steelers’ first two games of the season due to a calf issue.
Young quarterback Justin Fields has started each of the first two games of the season, and Pittsburgh has come away with wins in both contests. Fields had a full week of preparation ahead of the Steelers’ Week 2 clash with the Denver Broncos and impressed once again.
Fields completed 13-of-20 passes for 117 yards and one touchdown. He also tallied 27 rushing yards on eight carries. Those numbers may not jump off the page, but he did it against a staunch Denver defense and did enough to get Pittsburgh to 2-0 on the young season. Pittsburgh is the only team in the AFC North with a 2-0 record.
The 25-year-old is dynamic and can impact a game with both his arm or his legs. Opposing teams need to plan for that, and although his numbers may not have been extremely high, they were enough to give the Broncos fits. Plus, he didn’t have any turnovers. He protected the ball well. Fields fumbled once, but didn’t lose it.

Wilson should be ready to go soon, but Fields will at least start the third game of the season, according to recent reports. He has shown that he is capable of being the team’s long-term option and will at least have one more opportunity to prove it. Who will end up winning the position, though? We should find out soon.
