Steelers Kicker Wins AFC Honor After Standout Week 1 Performance

Chris Boswell named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week

The Pittsburgh Steelers began the regular season with a hard fought 18-10 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.

Pittsburgh’s defense dominated the game with TJ Watt leading the way with a sack and a fumble recovery. Justin Fields led the offense with 156 passing yards, adding another 57 yards on the ground. Even with the offense going for 270 total yards, the Steelers couldn’t score a touchdown, but luckily kicker Chris Boswell stepped up hitting six field goals.

Boswell was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week after hitting six field goals in Week 1 against the Falcons according to Steelers.com’s Teresa Varley.

“Kicker Chris Boswell was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the Steelers Week 1 18-10 win over the Atlanta Falcons,” Varley said.

“Boswell accounted for all 18 points the Steelers scored, going six-for-six on field goals. Boswell hit three field goals of more than 50 yards, connecting from 57, 51 and 56 yards. Boswell became the first kicker in Steelers history to hit three field goals of 50 yards or more. In typical Boswell fashion, he downplayed what he did.”

In addition to Boswell’s heroics hitting six field goals, he also stepped up to hit a 43-yard punt following a fourth-quarter injury to punter Cameron Johnston. Boswell has been AFC Special Teams Player of the Week twice before in his career in 2015 and 2017. Pittsburgh stays on the road this week facing off against the Denver Broncos.
