Steelers Sign Wide Receiver To Practice Squad Amid Flurry Of Moves

The South Carolina State product will add more receiver depth

The Pittsburgh Steelers are making multiple changes to their roster and practice squad following their Week 1 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.

Pittsburgh defeated Atlanta 18-10 in their season opener, but are now dealing with multiple injuries. The Steelers punter Cameron Johnston suffered a season ending lower leg injury during the game. As a result, Pittsburgh has signed punter Corliss Waitman to the 53-man roster along with safety Terrell Edmunds. They have also made changes to the practice squad.

The Steelers signed wide receiver Shaquan Davis to their practice squad and released linebacker Marcus Hayes according to Steelers.com’s Teresa Varley.

“The Steelers signed receiver Shaquan Davis to the practice squad and released linebacker Marcus Haynes,” Varley reported. “Davis originally signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent following the 2023 NFL Draft. He spent his rookie season on the Saints practice squad.”

“Davis signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in the offseason, but returned to the Saints during training camp. Davis played college football at South Carolina State where he appeared in seven games in 2022. He finished that season with 23 receptions for 546 yards and five touchdowns. Overall, Davis accounted for 934 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns.”

Davis is a 6-foot-5 wide receiver known for his big frame. Davis is a good pickup for Pittsburgh to add more depth to their receiving core. The Steelers head to Denver for a Week 2 matchup against the Denver Broncos in a potential revenge game for Russell Wilson.
