Pirates Top Prospect Suggested As Player Who Could Get Called Up Soon

Pittsburgh has some exciting, young talent

The Pittsburgh Pirates still have something to play for despite the playoffs looking like a pipe dream.

Pittsburgh won’t be in the playoffs this season, but there still is time left in the 2024 Major League Baseball regular season. This could give the Pirates the perfect opportunity to get a look at some young players in the big leagues. Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter put together a list of prospects who could get called up before the season ends and mentioned Pirates top prospect Bubba Chandler.

“The Pittsburgh Pirates already have one of baseball’s most exciting young rotations thanks to the emergence of rookies Paul Skenes and Jared Jones this year, and there is another promising young arm on the horizon in Bubba Chandler,” Reuter said. “A two-way player in high school and also a two-sport star who was committed to play baseball and football at Clemson, Chandler has taken off since turning his full attention to pitching. The Pirates were not shy about including Jones on their Opening Day roster this year, and giving Chandler a late-season look could pave the way for a similar rise next spring.”

Pittsburgh may not be in the playoffs this season, but it has so much exciting, young talent that the 2025 campaign could be much different. If Chandler can live up to his potential and join Skenes and Jones in the rotation, Pittsburgh could be dangerous in 2025. The Pirates have the makings to have one of the top starting rotations in baseball in the near future.

The Pirates need a little more firepower in the middle of the lineup, but they can figure that out this winter in free agency or a trade. It’s harder to develop good starting pitching and Pittsburgh seems to have done just that. Don’t be surprised if Chandler gets a look over the final few weeks of the season.
