The Pittsburgh Steelers may still have a question mark at quarterback ahead of Week 1 action after all.
There were plenty of rumors and speculation throughout the summer about who would be the team’s starting quarterback in Week 1. Russell Wilson suffered a calf injury in the summer and that opened the door for Justin Fields to get a chance at the starting job. The two competed well, but Wilson ultimately was chosen as the team’s starter.
Fields still may end up being the quarterback on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, though. Wilson’s calf injury has acted up again and he officially has been listed as questionable for Week 1, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
“The Steelers officially list QB Russell Wilson (calf) as questionable for Sunday,” Rapoport said. “Justin Fields took the first-team reps today.”
With Wilson hobbled this possibly opens the door for Fields to earn the starting job. If he ends up starting against the Falcons and impressing, it may be difficult to take him out of the starting spot. There still are a few days for Wilson to heal and get ready for the game, but this will be a situation to closely monitor until Sunday.

There wasn’t a massive difference between Wilson and Fields throughout the summer so no matter who is under center Week 1 and beyond, the Steelers should be in good shape. Hopefully, Wilson is alright and able to make a full recovery in time for the clash with the Falcons.
