Cameron Heyward, Steelers Agree To Three-Year Contract Extension

Heyward is one of the Steelers' defensive captains

The Pittsburgh Steelers have locked up one of their leaders to a contract extension.

Pittsburgh announced Tuesday that the team and defensive lineman Cameron Heyward have agreed to a three-year contract extension. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the extension is a $45 million deal with $16 million guaranteed. His signing bonus is reportedly near $15 million.

Heyward spoke to the Steelers website, stating he wanted to end his career in black and gold.

“There are certain guys who are one-helmet guys,” Heyward told Steelers.com. “I want to be one of those one-helmet guys.”

The 35-year-old has spent his entire career with Pittsburgh since they drafted him back in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He’s second in team history with 80.5 career sacks, tied with James Harrison and only trailing teammate T.J. Watt. Heyward is also a three-time first-team All-Pro and six-time Pro Bowler in his 13-year career.
