Steelers Sign Former Eagles Running Back To Practice Squad

The Steelers add a solid veteran for depth

The National Football League season begins in under a week and the Pittsburgh Steelers are finalizing their roster as they gear up for Week 1.

The Steelers recently made cuts to trim down their roster to 53 ahead of their season opener. The most notable cuts included wide receiver Quez Watkins, fullback Jack Colletto, and cornerback Thomas Graham.

Since then, Pittsburgh has been making new additions to their practice squad. They brought back training camp standouts Watkins, Colletto, and Graham. The Steelers can have up to 16 players on their practice squad to develop players and add emergency replacements.

Pittsburgh added to their practice squad by signing former Philadelphia Eagles running back Boston Scott according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

“The Steelers are expected to sign RB Boston Scott to their practice squad, source says,” Garafalo reported. “After a brief stint with the Rams, the former Eagles back is set to return to Pennsylvania.”

Scott totaled 1,295 rushing yards with 16 touchdowns on 302 carries across 75 regular-season games and six seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. He also added in 71 receptions for another 566 yards and a touchdown during his time in Philadelphia.

Pittsburgh has three running backs on their 53-man roster including Najee Harris, Jaylen Warren, and Cordarrelle Patterson. If something happens to any of these options, Scott would be a solid practice squad player to elevate to the team. The Steelers aim to begin the season on a good note when they face off against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1.
