Steelers Announce 53-Man Roster Ahead Of Season Opener After Making Cuts

There were a few surprise cuts made

The National Football League season is beginning in just over a week and the Pittsburgh Steelers had to whittle down their roster in preparation for the regular season now that the preseason is over.

The Steelers have been in the news throughout most of training camp and the preseason because of rumors. Constant trade rumors for Brandon Aiyuk and a quarterback battle between Russell Wilson and Justin Fields have taken the spotlight. The Steelers have also added many young players fighting to make the roster.

The Steelers have officially announced their 53-man roster according to Sports Illustrated’s Noah Strackbein.

“The Pittsburgh Steelers’ 53-man roster is officially set,” Strackbein reported. “For the first time in 2024, the black and gold roster is locked in, and this team has an identity for Week 1. Obviously, changes will come and moves will be made either through trades or signings, but the Steelers have their initial regular season roster.”

“While there are always a few surprise cuts, the Steelers roster felt in place for some time. Now, it’s finalized, and they’ll begin preparing for Week 1 when they head South to take on the Altanta Falcons.”

There were some surprising cuts to get the team down to 53. The most notable cuts included wide receiver Quez Watkins, fullback Jack Colletto, and cornerback Thomas Graham Jr.

The Steelers will likely make more roster moves in the coming days. They could use some help at wide receiver and cornerback before the season begins. Although there is potential that Pittsburgh will trade for a receiver before the season begins, things have settled down for now.

Pittsburgh will travel to Mercedes-Benz Stadium to open up their season against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1.
