The Pittsburgh Steelers are beginning to cut down their roster with the goal of making their 53-man roster ahead of Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season.
Pittsburgh announced Monday that they released eight players from their roster in the first round of roster moves, which included five offensive players and three defensive players.
The five offensive players released from the roster were wide receiver Jacob Copeland, wide receiver T.J. Luther, running back Daijun Edwards, and offensive linemen Tyler Beach and Devery Hamilton.
With the cuts, the Steelers now have nine wideouts on the roster with George Pickens and rookie Roman Wilson leading the way. They also have six running backs remaining on the team with Najee Harris, Jaylen Warren, and Cordarrelle Patterson expected to get the bulk of touches for the squad this season. And finally, Pittsburgh still has nine offensive linemen on the roster as they figure out the best combination to protect the quarterback this season.
The Steelers and the rest of the NFL teams will need to have their mandatory 53-man rosters set by 4 p.m. EST on Tuesday, Aug. 27, meaning another wave of cuts is still to come for Pittsburgh.
