Pirates Hurler Suffers Unfortunate Injury Likely Ending His Season

Pittsburgh got some bad news

The Pittsburgh Steelers got some unfortunate news on Saturday.

Pittsburgh second-year hurler Hunter Stratton has been having a great season for the Pirates and has a 3.58 ERA in 36 appearances this year for the Pirates. He has an impressive 33-to-7 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 37 2/3 innings pitched but likely is done for the season now.

Stratton had been solid for the Pirates but suffered a left knee patella tendon rupture and was forced to leave Saturday’s contest, according to MLB.com’s Alex Stumpf.

“Hunter Stratton was removed from this evening’s game after sustaining a left knee patella tendon rupture,” Stumpf said “He is currently being examined by team doctors and getting imagining to determine the severity of the injury.”

Stratton was placed on the 60-day Injured List on Sunday afternoon, according to the team.

“We have selected the contract of LHP Brady Feigl from Triple-A Indianapolis and have placed RHP Hunter Stratton on the 60-day injured list with a rupture of his left patella tendon,” the Pirates announced.

Stratton has been great this season for the Pirates but we most likely will have to wait until the 2025 season kicks off to see him back on the mound.

He was selected in the 16th round of the 2017 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft by the Pirates and eventually made his big league debut in Pittsburgh in 2023. Hopefully, he will be able to make a full recovery and get back on track in 2025.
