The Pittsburgh Pirates got some unfortunate news regarding one of their young pitchers.
Pittsburgh’s Hunter Stratton suffered a left knee patella tendon rupture against the Cincinnati Reds and was placed on the 60-day injured list. The second-year reliever for the Pirates has been great this season with a 3.58 ERA across 36 appearances.
Following the injury to Stratton, the Pirates called up Brady Feigl from the minor leagues according to Sports Illustrated’s Dominic Campbell.
“The Pirates announced that they selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Brady Feigl and placed right-handed pitcher Hunter Stratton on the 60-day Injured List with a rupture of the left patella tendon,” Campbell said. “Stratton suffered the injury in the 10-2 loss to the Cincinnati Reds Saturday night at PNC Park after he slipped in the dirt by the backstop and needed medical staff to cart him off the field.
“Feigl signed a minor league contract with the Pirates on Jan. 21 and has pitched for the Indianapolis Indians at Triple-A the entire season prior. He has pitched in 33 games with one start, holds a 7-2 record, a 3.83 ERA in 51.2 innings pitched, 62 strikeouts to 13 walks and holding opposing hitters to a .258 batting average.”

Feigl’s professional baseball journey began as an undrafted free agent with the Atlanta Braves where he made it as high as Triple-A but never cracked the majors. Over a decade since joining the minor leagues, Feigl has finally made it to the majors with Pittsburgh. The 33-year-old reliever will look to help the Pirates down the stretch.
