The Pittsburgh Steelers have been in trade talks with the San Francisco 49ers for weeks about a deal for Brandon Aiyuk.
The Steelers have been looking to trade for another receiver to pair with George Pickens and Aiyuk has been their main target. At one point, the Steelers and 49ers reportedly had a deal in place, but the 49ers have not accepted any trade offers.
Pittsburgh is fighting the clock, waiting to see if the 49ers sign Aiyuk to a new deal or trade him to the Steelers. There are less than two weeks until the 2024 National Football League season starts, so a decision should be made any day now.
The Washington Commanders surprisingly have reemerged as a potential suitor for Aiyuk after trading Jahan Dotson according to NFL insider Michael Silver.
“I wouldn’t rule out Washington,” Silver reported while speaking on San Francisco radio station KNBR. “And I know there have been reports that the Commanders are out, but they just traded a receiver today. Adam Peters and John Lynch obviously can communicate very easily on this. That’s the other team besides the Steelers that Aiyuk has honed in on as where he wants to go.”

Aiyuk has connections to Commander’s rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels as they were former college teammates. He has also voiced that he would play for the Commanders so there is certainly traction between the two sides.
If the 49ers do not re-sign the All-Pro wide receiver, there are no guarantees about what will happen next. One way or another, a resolution needs to come soon.
