Steelers Veteran Wide Receiver In Danger Of Getting Cut This Summer

How will Pittsburgh trim the roster?

The 2024 National Football League regular season will kick off in just a few weeks.

It’s an exciting time in the football world and after what felt like a long offseason, real football finally is almost here. There’s a lot to like about the Pittsburgh Steelers this season, as well. Pittsburgh seems to be in a great spot heading into the 2024 campaign.

The Steelers have a chance to take a step forward and fans will get a look at them in the near future, but Pittsburgh will have to make some tough decisions before the new campaign begins. Pittsburgh will have to start trimming down the roster soon and that means that there will be plenty of cuts and possibly even some trades over the next week or so.

One player who could end up being on the chopping block is veteran receiver Quez Watkins, according to Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon.

“Pittsburgh Steelers: Quez Watkins, WR,” Kenyon said. “Quez Watkins had a mini-breakout season in 2021, tallying 647 receiving yards with the Philadelphia Eagles. Unfortunately, he mustered 496 over the last two years combined. Watkins might hang around if the Steelers keep six wideouts, yet he’d need to outlast Dez Fitzpatrick for that job, too.”

Watkins joined the Steelers this offseason on a one-year deal but Pittsburgh has a crowded receiver room at this point. Plus, Pittsburgh still has been trying to swing a move for a star like Brandon Aiyuk.

Because of all of these factors, Watkins will be someone to watch over the next week to see if he can impress and earn a spot on the roster. If not, he could be cut in the not-so-distant future.
