The Pittsburgh Steelers have a very good problem to have.
Pittsburgh won 10 games last season, but it has subpar quarterback play. The Steelers responded throughout the offseason by bringing in both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. The two quarterbacks have been fighting for the starting job throughout the summer and right now it’s unclear who will win it.
No matter what, though, the Steelers will be in a better position whether Wilson or Fields is under center Week 1. The position still is up in the air, but Fields thinks he has shown enough to possibly win it, according to a conversation between him and ESPN’s Brooke Pryor.
“Justin Fields says he believes he has shown his capabilities through training camp and the first two weeks of the preseason but directed all questions on his status in the Steelers’ quarterback competition to coach Mike Tomlin,” Pryor said. “I think I’ve shown what I can do. I think the time that I did have with the (first team) practicing in training camp, I think that went well. I think we grew a lot each and every day, but at the end of the day, it’s not up to me.
“I mean, I’m just going to come in here every day, each and every day, the same person, being a leader for this team and work my butt off, and everything else will be handled.”

The competition isn’t over yet and either Wilson or Fields still could win the job. It seemed like Wilson had the inside track to starting Week 1, but maybe Fields could change some minds over the next week or so.
