Steelers Reportedly Believe They Have 2025 Quarterback On Roster Already

Pittsburgh has a bright future

The biggest question swirling around the Pittsburgh Steelers right now certainly will be who will be under center Week 1.

Pittsburgh had below-average quarterback play last season and will be in a better spot no matter who is the starter Week 1. The Steelers went out and added Russell Wilson and Justin Fields this offseason and the two are fighting for the top spot on the roster. It’s unclear what will happen, but the Steelers are in better shape overall.

Plus, they could be set for the foreseeable future. Wilson has seemed like the likely choice to be the team’s starter in 2024. But, Fields is just 25 years old and seems like he is going to be the long-term solution for the Steelers. He has been impressive in camp and Pittsburgh believes it has its 2025 quarterback on the roster with Fields being the guy, according to Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson.

“Steelers believe the 2025 QB is on the roster,” Robinson said. “Who that is…has yet to be decided. But Fields has a better shot than ever to be the guy.”

Wilson will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and Field’s fifth-year rookie option was declined so he too likely will end up being a free agent. Wilson may be the short-term option, but with Field’s youth, he certainly could help Pittsburgh for years to come.
