The Pittsburgh Steelers still have not seen their third-round draft pick in action this preseason.
The Steelers drafted wide receiver Roman Wilson from Michigan in the third round of the National Football League draft. Wilson injured his ankle on the first day of padded training camp practices. He fortunately avoided a major injury that could have threatened his rookie season.
It has been over three weeks since his injury and Wilson hasn’t practiced yet. He’s walking without a walking boot or a limp and has progressed since injuring his ankle.
There was a chance Wilson would be able to return for the preseason finale, but his ankle injury will keep him out of the final game of the preseason according to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette’s Brian Batko.
“The Steelers will finish their 2024 preseason Saturday in Detroit, but the exhibition slate will have come and gone without Roman Wilson,” Batko reports.

“Wilson, the team’s first third-round pick this year, confirmed Thursday that he’s still dealing with the ankle injury that happened on the first day in pads at training camp. He hasn’t practiced since being tackled by cornerback Anthony Averett and landing awkwardly, an issue that now will cost him his entire rookie preseason.”
Although Wilson will not be available for Pittsburgh’s final preseason game, his recovery seems to be going well. Wilson told reporters that his ankle is feeling good. This is a good sign for the Steelers’ wide receiver room as they could use the depth if a trade for a certain star doesn’t happen.
