Will The Steelers Target This Star If A Brandon Aiyuk Trade Falls Through?

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been attempting to bring in another star receiver to pair with George Pickens for some time now. The player the Steelers have been linked to is San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.

After going back and forth, the Steelers and 49ers have a deal in place for Aiyuk according to reports. San Francisco is waiting to see if Aiyuk will accept their contract offer before giving up and trading Aiyuk. Trading for Aiyuk and pairing him with Pickens would give the Steelers a lethal receiving duo.

However, if Aiyuk chooses to stay with the 49ers, what should Pittsburgh’s next move be? According to Sports Illustrated’s Noah Strackbein, the Steelers should have their eyes on Dallas Cowboys star CeeDee Lamb.

“With the Steelers making it clear they want a star wide receiver, and are willing to give up a large contract and a trade to get one, maybe they should call the Dallas Cowboys,” Strackbein reports. “Lamb has not reported to training camp and he looks for an extension, and the two sides – Dallas and Lamb – don’t appear to be on great terms.”

“The Steelers understand what they’re willing to give up for a wideout, and how much they’re willing to pay in a contract. Maybe neither are what the Cowboys or Lamb are looking for, but maybe both are. Either way, it’s worth a phone call to test the waters.”

If a deal can’t be reached for Aiyuk, the Steelers should target Lamb. Lamb is a two-time All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowler. Pittsburgh has a better chance to make a deep playoff run if they add another star receiver to their offense like Aiyuk or Lamb.
