The Pittsburgh Penguins continue to make moves this offseason with eyes on the future.
Pittsburgh’s President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas announced Tuesday morning that the team made a trade with the St. Louis Blues to swap draft picks.
The Penguins acquired the Blues’ 2026 second-round draft pick and the Ottawa Senators’ draft third-round pick. In return, Pittsburgh sent back the Blues’ 2025 second-round draft pick, which was acquired in the Kevin Hayes trade earlier this offseason, as well as the Penguins’ 2026 fifth-round pick.
The Hayes trade had originally brought the veteran forward to the team along with the Blues’ second-round pick for future considerations. This deal now allows the Blues to have their pick back, while the Penguins add more for their future with an immediate third-round selection for next year’s draft while also getting back a second-rounder for 2026.
With the likes of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang closer to the end of their careers than the beginning, Dubas and the Penguins front office are slowly building for the future — even if it’s mostly with the addition of draft picks.
