The Pittsburgh Pirates are right in the mix for a National League Wild Card with not too much time left in the regular season.
Pittsburgh has a 56-61 record and has been a surprise this season. There weren’t many who expected the Pirates to be this close to playoff contention and is just one small win streak away from being back in the mix.
The Pirates are loaded with young talent and certainly have a bright future. Pittsburgh is in the playoff hunt but it still could help to add some more pitching down the stretch. One player who could make some sense is old friend Rich Hill.
Hill recently held a showcase for possibly interested teams as he is looking to return to the big leagues. He made 22 starts for the Pirates last year and had a 4.76 ERA.
While those numbers don’t jump off the page, he is a 19-year big league veteran and could be a familiar option to help. What’s great about Hill is that he could serve as a starter or reliever, whichever the Pirates would prefer. Plus, he wouldn’t cost too much.

Pittsburgh was surprisingly active around the trade deadline so it wouldn’t be too shocking to see it keeping an eye on available free agents. Hill is one of the better ones out there and certainly will find an opportunity in the near future.
The Pirates are right in contention for a playoff spot and it could never hurt to add more veteran pitching.
