Ex-Saints Pro Bowler ‘Could Help’ Boost Steelers’ Offense Before Week 1

Could the Steelers add another receiver soon?

Will the Pittsburgh Steelers make another move ahead of the 2024 National Football League season?

At this point, it is unclear. Pittsburgh has been in the news lately as it has pursued San Francisco 49ers star receiver Brandon Aiyuk. The star receiver recently requested a trade and is looking for a massive new contract.

It has seemed like the Steelers were his top choice if he was moved, but now a trade isn’t as likely. Aiyuk and the 49ers have started talking about a possible extension again which could hurt the Steelers’ chances. Landing someone like Aiyuk immediately would take Pittsburgh’s offense to another level but there are other options out there who could help.

If the Steelers were to miss out on Aiyuk, one player who was mentioned as a possible fit for Pittsburgh is former New Orleans Saints receiver Michael Thomas by Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox.

“Michael Thomas remains unsigned, which isn’t a surprise after several seasons marred by injuries and underwhelming production,” Knox said. “The 31-year-old missed all of the 2021 campaign. He also hasn’t reached 500 yards in a season and has appeared in only 20 games over that over the last four years…

“While a return to Pro Bowl form is unlikely for Thomas, the 6’3″, 212-pound pass-catcher can still help an NFL offense. He caught 39 passes for 448 yards and a touchdown in 10 games with the New Orleans Saints last season and can still serve as a solid third or fourth option for a team lacking at the receiver position. Thomas could help a team like New England or Pittsburgh—though he isn’t the Steelers’ ‘type of receiver,’ according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.”

A move may not be likely at this point, but Thomas is one of the better options still left in free agency if the Steelers want to add another receiver.
