Pirates Infielder Called Someone Pittsburgh ‘Should’ve Traded’ At Deadline

The Pirates could've improved even more at the deadline.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have had a solid 2024 season and have a great chance to make the playoffs.

Pittsburgh is fiercely fighting for the final wild-card playoff spot, as they seek to make the playoffs for the first time since 2015. The pitching staff is leading the team with the emergence of rookie All-Star Paul Skenes and Mitch Keller who have led the Pirates to top ten in the league in ERA.

The Pirates were active around the trade deadline, headlined by their trade for former Miami Marlins outfielder Bryan De La Cruz. They also added utility player Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Pittsburgh made some solid moves to add depth but nearly missed out on landing star outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr.

While this is the case, FanSided’s Zach Pressnell said that Mitch Jebb is someone the Pirates “should’ve traded” ahead of the trade deadline to bring more star power to Pittsburgh.

“The Pirates are in the perfect position to go all in on controllable pieces,” Pressnell reported. “Mitch Jebb would have been the perfect piece to headline a deal for Jazz Chisholm, who would have been a great addition to this Pirates roster. Jebb has quite a few shortstops ahead of him as well.”

Jebb is ranked as Pittsburgh’s No. 7 prospect. With starting shortstop Oneil Cruz being just 25, it would be a while before Jebb would see meaningful playing time for the Pirates.

Jebb has slashed .255/.351/.356 and would have been a great piece in a deal for Chisholm. After making deals around the deadline, the Pirates are still in a good position to make the playoffs as they fight for a wild-card spot.
