The Pittsburgh Steelers have made major changes to the roster following a 10-7 regular season and first-round playoff exit last year.
The Steelers have been active this offseason, signing Russell Wilson and trading for Justin Fields to helm the offense. Pittsburgh also signed Super Bowl Champion, Cordarrelle Patterson.
In addition to the changes on the field, Pittsburgh also brought in Arthur Smith as the new offensive coordinator. These new additions make it clear that the Steelers will have a new-look offense this season.
One surprising difference early on in training camp has been the heavy use of the fullback position, according to Steelers.com’s Mike Prisuta.
“Notable developments during the first padded practice of training camp last Tuesday included fullback Jack Colletto helping to lead leading running back Najee Harris past inside linebacker Patrick Queen and into the end zone during ‘Seven Shots,'” Prisuta reported. “Colletto, a first-year pro who spent time on the practice squads of the (San Francisco) 49ers and the Steelers last season, has been conspicuous by his periodic presence on the field with the first-team offense running against the first-team defense throughout training camp.”

“New offensive coordinator Arthur Smith confirmed his appreciation of having a traditional fullback at his disposal, but emphasized such a player also has to be able to contribute on special teams.”
The emphasis on the fullback position and the run in training camp is giving Colletto a strong chance to make the 53-man roster. Adding in the new additions in the offseason, the Steelers offense is sure to look significantly different than last year.
